This course explores the EMDR Anxiety Protocol, an effective treatment for various anxiety disorders. Based on the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, it explains how EMDR reprocessing distressing memories that fuel anxiety, leading to adaptive responses. Participants will learn to apply the protocol for GAD, Specific Phobias, Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia, Social Anxiety Disorder, and death anxiety. The curriculum covers all eight phases of EMDR therapy: Client History, Preparation, Assessment, Desensitization, Installation, Body Scan, Closure, and Re-evaluation. The course emphasizes understanding anxiety’s neurobiology and how EMDR provides lasting relief by integrating information at a neural level.
Therapists completing this EMDR Anxiety Protocol will:
Understand the AIP Model: Explain how unprocessed memories cause anxiety.
Identify Clinical Applications: Determine suitability for various anxiety disorders (GAD, phobias, panic, social, death, test, health anxiety, some OCD).
Master EMDR Phases (1-8) for Anxiety
Integrate Neurobiological Understanding: Explain sympathetic/parasympathetic roles and amygdala function in anxiety.
Apply Cultural Considerations: Adapt to cultural expressions, address stigma, consider family/community contexts, demonstrate humility.
